For this weekend’s V8 showcase, young Scott McLaughlin will be on the spotlight in Reid Park as the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series driver. Next week, he will prove undergo what many teenagers go through as he goes for a driving test in Gold Coast. For a young racer, it seems unlikely that he considers his driving test with nervousness and uncertainty. Incidentally, McLaughlin is already considered as the most skilful L-plater and seems ready to compete in the V8 Supercars development series for the Stone Brothers Racing, the factory Ford Team. The V8 Ford driving days of young Scott may further put his skills up a notch, but for now he is a typical teenager fretting over perfecting a reverse parallel park to obtain what many teenagers long for, a driver’s license, which is for them a clear symbol of freedom.
It seems funny though for this young racer to be anxious about acing his driver’s test. Perhaps there is always a looming possibility of controlling your adrenaline rush and not let the car zoom as he would in the Fujitsu BF Falcon. Racers live for speed so it is definitely a struggle for them to be out on ordinary roads keeping to the speed limit. For a young teenager revving up to prove his mettle in the circuit, it may be extra difficult to draw the line as he eagerly sets his eyes on a lucrative career in the motorsports arena. McLaughlin shows some great potential as he dramatically rose to fame from last year’s go-kart championships in Townsville.
As part of the well known team of SBR, young Scott is eager to learn a few tricks from the great guys like Ross and Stone. He also has the privilege of being mentored by Van Gisbergen, Slade and Davison. SBR is a great team having won a lot of titles so McLaughlin is in for a treat of his life. The V8 Ford driving days of the champions have been a pure inspiration to young racers like McLaughlin whose eyes were glued to the TV set and dreaming of racing against the top guns in the V8 Supercars world. The fulfillment of his childhood fantasy may soon come true but first he needs to pass his driving test and be like the rest of his teenage contemporaries.
