The V8 Supercars management is becoming really serious to provide the best entertainment for its fans, abroad and local-based. It has decided to manage its round at Queensland Raceway just outside Ipswich, unlike in the past where the lessee of the raceway handled the event. This move was mainly for the fans, who closely watch this particular race. The circuit has also improved to secure the event for many more years of exciting race. This was confirmed and signed by the Raceway owner, John Tetley.
This came as welcomed news after the failure of negotiations between QR and AVESCO, placing the event as provisional in the V8 calendar. As part of the promotion and reconnaissance mission, Will Davison of Holden went to the Middle with the aim to secure a good start for his V8 Supercar title chase. Davison trails winner Jamie whincup last year and has spent three days practicing runs in the Abu Dhabi track, the venue for the title opener held last February 18-20.
The said trip was purely promotional for the new race, but it was also an opportune time for Davison to try out the hi-tech Yas Marina circuit, which he did but not aboard a championship-spec V8 supercar. At that time, none of the V8 drivers have raced on the track. Davison aimed to provide his Holden Racing Team engineers some vital feedback regarding the car’s performance as well as his driving abilities on the new track.
For many drivers, it is important to get familiarized to the track so that they can make the necessary adjustments to their cars as well as hone their driving skills particularly if it is a new track. Car engineers need the driver’s information in order to make a speedy and reliable supercar. In fact, Davison used his handy camera to take shots of the cars on the track to relay to his engineers. The V8 Supercar event is not only for the driver but for the rest of the team as well as the owners. None of the drivers will be able to have a good race if not for a good team offering full support.
For Davison’s debut season for this year, Davison and his team made a remarkable performance. They chased Whincup up to the penultimate round held in Perth, but unfortunately was stopped by a freak accident where Davison skidded on oil and crashed into the wall of the pit lane. The rivalry of HRT ad Team Vodafone has offered a lot of excitement to the V8 Supercar fans especially after Whincup and Craig Lowndes decided to leave Ford and jumped right on in to Holden.
